Ok, so I was considering using some more ~special~ paper than just my standard sketchbook stuff. After a trip to Falkiners and a few tests, I ended up liking both the parchment and the medieval laid.

The parchment is very easy to draw on and translucent, although there is a little buckling going on . It makes the ink look very vibrant and tonal.

The medieval laid is a little tougher to draw on because of the roughness of the texture and makes the ink look darker. It's really gorgeous stuff though and would be practically impossible to print on later, which is in a way the endgame here.
The final outcome is supposed to be both digital and printed, so in a way it's a bit silly to be too precious about the originals. I'm severely tempted to just use normal white drawing paper actually.
I'm also not totally convinced by the whole calligraphy nib style...does it verge into the cliché? I'm definitely not going to use it exclusively so the line work will be more varied.
I'm going to let this marinate overnight and make some decisions tomorrow.
